The 15/over championships were held at Portsmouth over the bank holiday weekend at the beginning of May. Nick Sims was our only competitor in this age group this year, but we joined forces with Thame swimming club, and it was great to reunite with some of the swimmers from the swim camp again. Conditions were packed poolside, but Nick swam well over the 3 days, competing in 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 200 IM and 50 back. He gained several long course PBs and reached the final for 200IM, where he finished a pleasing 6th.

14th/15th May saw the start of the 14/u championship, at K2 in Crawley. Ben Newell, Isabelle Langley, Ben Titchener and Chris Sims competed for the club.

Ben Newell swam first in the 1500m, finishing a creditable 10th with a new long course PB of 19:28.86, and managing to save enough energy for his 50m backstroke in the next session!

Isabelle Langley swam strongly in the girls 100m and 200m backstroke, producing new long course PBs for both events with times of 1:13.63 and 2:38.02.

Ben Titchener qualified for the finals for the 100m freestyle where he finished 4th in a time of 1:01.16, setting a new club record and improving on his time from the heat. His 200m freestyle time of 2:17.28 put him as first reserve, and he also gained a new long course PB for 50m fly.

Chris Sims qualified for the finals in the 200m and 100m breaststroke events, and also competed in the 50m backstroke. The 100m breaststroke final was very exciting, with Chris having to settle for bronze – just 0.13 seconds behind the silver medal position! Like Ben, he also managed to swim faster in the finals, gaining 2 bronze medals with times of 2:42.48 and 1:14.49.
