Michael Fabes competed for GB in the European Age Group Aquathlon Championships in Cologne on Saturday, winning the silver medal in the 16-19 age group. He also finished 4th overall out of the 100 starters in the Men’s Age Group Event and was the 2nd British finisher from all the Age Groups.

The event consisted of a 1km swim in a marina at the side of the Rhine, followed by a 5km run along the riverside promenade. Michael completed the swim (and climb up to transition) in just over 13 minutes, followed by the run in 18.44 minutes, with an overall time of 32.44 minutes.

The start of the swim in a very narrow marina was very physical, but Michael managed to stay out of trouble and pull through the field in the 2nd 500m, exiting the water in 3rd place overall. The winner of the 16-19 age group, turned out to be a very tall Czech running ahead of Michael. He managed to halve the gap, on the run, but couldn’t quite catch him. Whilst slightly disappointed, he took some consolation from finishing ahead of his GB team mates.

The whole club is very proud of Michael's fantastic achievement!
