— 8 Sep 2019, 21:55This season's Club Captains, Maddie and Ben, have put together some sound advice for parents and swimmers on how to get ready for competing at galas. Take a look at their tips for "How to have a successful gala".
— 8 Sep 2019, 21:509 year old Archie recently joined the Club and swims in Academy 1.
Archie has signed up to do the “Aspire swim the channel challenge” where he will swim 1416 lengths of the pool - a distance of 22 miles - which is the equivalent of swimming the English Channel. An incredible feat for a 9 year old!
He will be doing this over the coming weeks and will record the number of lengths he completes each time swims on his fundraising page. This monitors his progress for sponsors to see.
Archie's funding page and a full story is here: https://justgiving.com/fundraising/archie-cockett-2019-channel-swim-41684
Good luck Archie!

MAXWELL GALA REPORT
Thought I'd let you have a few statistics from the weekend's gala at Maxwell.
We had 28 swimmers entered into 135 events - 15 of them being swam for the first time. We had swimmers from 7 squads there with Grace, Mattie & On Bong competing in their first "real" gala.
Of the 135 swims, 102 new Personal Best times were achieved.
Biggest margins were from:
· Oscar - 200 IM - 16.4 secs / 200 Free - 12 secs / 100 IM - 9 secs
· Adrien - 100 IM - 13.8 secs / 200 Free - 12.4 secs / 100 Back - 8.4 secs
· Isabelle - 200 Free - 10.2 secs / 100 Free - 9.4 secs
· Poppy - 100 IM - 15 secs
· Charlotte - 200 IM - 10.4 secs
· Isobel - 200 Back - 8.8 secs
· Emmanuella - 50 Free -7.88 secs - which is phenomenal over such short a distance!
There were only 4 disqualifications - the daftest of which was from Ben T who seemed to forget that he couldn't swim the whole of the first length underwater in the 50m backstroke!!
In the 50m events, there were finals for the 9, 10 and 11 year age groups, and 6 of our swimmers achieved between them 10 Top 8 places and therefore qualified – Esther (50m Back & 50m Breast), Emmanuella (50m Breast & 50m Free), Amelie (50m Free), Adrien (50m Back & 50m Breast), Isobel (50m Back) and Harvey (50m Breast & 50m Free).
We had 66 Top 10 placings (nearly 50%!) which included 2 Golds, 6 Silvers and 7 Bronzes.
There was, as always, great team camaraderie - from both swimmers and parents - and hopefully you all enjoyed yourselves.
I do know that Mark was extremely pleased with all the fabulous backstroke starts and it was great to see all your hard work in training reap rewards.
