Annually Tigersharks Swimming Club hosts an individual medley gala in Aylesbury’s Link Centre. On Sunday 6th July, three Didcot Barramundi swimmers attended this gala. An individual medley competition works by each contestant swimming 50 metres of each stroke. The total time from these four races is added together to create a 200m individual medley (IM) time. The fastest six swimmers in each age group qualify for the final where they then compete against one another and swim either 100IM for nine year olds or 200IM for ten and over. This type of gala tests the both the speed and the stamina of the swimmers.

Medals are awarded for each 50m distance and then a glass trophy is awarded to all the finalist. We had all three swimmers qualify for the final; Isabelle Langley who came 6th in the very competitive 10 year old age group, Oliver Beard who achieved 1st in the 15 and overs and Bethan Newland-Smith who came 2nd in the 15 and overs category. These swimmers represented the club extremely well in the finals and also achieved medals for their 50m events.

Finally a huge Thank You to the organisers, Tigersharks ASA for hosting the event and letting our swimmers compete. Also a well done to the Barramundi swimmers who swam the individual medley gala, and good luck to all other swimmers in the upcoming galas and open water events.
